I suppose, I am a Brony.
As mentioned previously, I began my creative exploits in art, I wanted to be a comic book artist. Drawing super heroes; my dream job would have been to draw the All-Star Squadron off of Roy Thomas’ scripts.
At the start I hadn’t thought about writing my own stories, but it wasn’t long before I realized that art, whether it be in comic books or not, was all about telling stories.
The first actual story I remember writing, was based off of a dream, which in turn was based off of the Transformers animated series… no actually in the dream it was characters out of GoBots (which I didn’t watch a lot of). What I actually wrote, which was absolutely terrible in the end, became a story about enemy aliens fighting a war here on earth, but only experiencing life as humans, did they find a way to come together in peace.
I didn’t write any comic book related stories until Junior High School as part of a class. I wrote a Secret Origin story for a couple characters I called “The Aqua Sister”. The teacher liked it, but nothing much came from it. Though over the years I have developed it into something else, a Lovecraft like story, that one of these days I will actually write the full story. The teacher liked another story I wrote at that time, which is a lot closer to the type of stories I write today, but that’s for another day.
Along with comic books, I also enjoyed animations. Very rarely did I come up with an animation-based story that I jotted down and turned into an actual story. Most of what I did amounted to a couple pages of notes.
During this time I was writing a long story about detectives and aliens. There was a lot to it, but I’ve put it away from now. Though the characters live on in other stories I’ve written.
The first story, that I might consider fan fiction, was for an animated series called MIGHTY MAX. This was basically the very first animation spec script I ever wrote before I even knew what spec scripts were. There was perhaps another story going back further that I wrote out but did nothing with, based on a series called M.A.S.K. in which the adventures drove supped up vehicles and gained most of their abilities from heavy-duty masks they wore. In the show was a kid (yeah, there’s always that kid), who had a friendly robot (of course he did). He was just there for the comedy relief in the middle of all the true adventure which we all tuned in to see. I wanted to know if this kid would ever become a great hero like his dad and the other members of M.A.S.K. I had an idea in which someone from the future travels back to help out the crew in a story. What no one will discover is that this stranger is actually the grown-up version of the kid and his MASK is actually a rebuilt version of the robot. Interesting idea, but I no longer remember what I did with it.
Those two stories, and that dream based concept from earlier, are probably the closest things I’ve ever written that might be considered Fan Fiction.
Most of the stories I’ve written as an adult have either been ones I published, attempted to sell, wrote spec-scripts for series, and actual animation scripts like those I wrote for MIDNIGHT HORROR SCHOOL.
None of those would I consider to be fan fiction, because I was writing them either as my own work, or be part of the existing cannon of a series if I ever got the chance of working on a show.
Over the last few years, I’ve been writing this mega story about Superman and the rest of the DC Universe. Not anything that I would ever expect to see published, it’s just for my own fun. I just keep writing it. No one will ever see it.
I have never truly written Fan Fiction of any series or IP. That all changed about a month ago.
When MY LITTLE PONY FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC ended, I saw that universe as complete. Yes, there was a future to it, but I didn’t see any place where I could come with stories in that world. I wasn’t looking for any. Yes, there was a new generation of Pony’s and they were fun, but the world isn’t as grand and thought out as FiM was. I really liked MLPFIM and I still watch an episode from time to time, it has greater, more enjoyable characters that are deeper than many other series.
I believe I’ve mentioned that I discovered this version of MLP through first seeing one of the EQUESTIA GIRLS movies. After that, I had to see the entire universe of stories. Live action shows should be this good.
Eventually both series came to an end. After watching the EG movie SPRING BREAKDOWN I wanted what was going on immediately after the final scene. I won’t spoil what happened, but it formed a question, which I believe I mentioned in a previous post. What if the character of TRIXIE in Equestria Girls met the Trixie of FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. Chaos would ensue, I was certain of it.
But I had no concept of a story out of that. Until about a month ago. Suddenly Trixie was telling me about what her life was like and what her experiences were and if she did meet her other self.
I started writing. It was not the story I thought I would tell, but something deeper about her character and her friendships.
This past week, I posted the first chapter of a story I’ve entitled “Trixie’s Okay” on my Tumblr account.

It was fun to write, and if I get enough feedback from MYP fandom I hope to write the entire story.
In the middle of working on this, and doing research of things I may have missed, I discovered one of two other story ideas in the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic universe I might want tell in the in the future.
I’d prefer to be writing professionally for an animated series, but writing fan fic for a series that is long completed is fun without worrying about trampling on toes and loosing chances of actual work.
I’ll let you know when future chapters drop.
