As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a Voice Actor. I began my training at the end of 2019. Later I will go into how Lockdown actually benefited my training, but now.

Right now, I’m having deal with another problem:

How do I find Auditions to read for?

A couple of years ago, I came across a post from a Voice Over agencies and after an interview I got to audition for several roles through them. But that has all dried up and I don’t hear from them at all any more.

I’ve been reaching out to other agencies, but haven’t received a response yet. Trying to figure out what would be the right ones to go after, and how best to promote myself.

There are other ways of finding roles. One of which is through social media but that can be hit and miss and blow up if you’re not careful.

Then there are the Pay to Play websites.

During my very first class, and then in a later class on The Business of VO, we went over several of the best-known ones. Which ones were good, and which ones to stay away from completely.

One instructor made a major point to avoid one, called Voices.com

I signed up with Backstage.com for two years because they had a very good discount. Unfortunately, across those two years, I think I may have found three roles that I felt were match and auditioned for. Nothing came from any of them. I also made certain I deleted my account and removed any audio files from the site because they were using our voices to train their AI. NOT GOOD!!!!

A third site; called Voice123.com has a lot of better qualities than the others, and over the last week I’ve been considering signing up for it. The first obstacle I hit is the price. I have a limited budget and don’t want to spend too much if the chances were slim, I wouldn’t get anything. More than likely it would take several bookings of small productions to pay for it. But I was still considering it. I’ve been asking around for opinions on the site; and what I’ve read up on it is that over the last couple of years their success rate has fallen of drastically.

One problem I’ve seen come up often is that casting calls go out late at night (depending on your geographic location) and by the time you check email in the more it has already closed.

I am certain that a lot of people have had great success with these sites, but I really don’t know if it’s right for me or if I can risk that much money.

I know the old saying “Spend money to make money,” but I just don’t know if I can do it right now.

There is also an independent free site called Casting Call Club, which I know a lot of people have got cast in small independent project. I wish them all the best of luck, but I have yet to find something there that matches my needs, or that I match their needs. I’ll keep checking them out, so I’m not giving up.

Know this a rather depressing post, but I am really in need of finding something positive when it comes to finding employment or auditioning for roles. I don’t want this to be easy, I don’t want it to be handed to me, but I need more guidance’s and direction to find where I really need to and be able to show off my skills and performance.

As I said, not giving up.
